It's really hard for me to connect to my characters. I sound forced/fake in speech and I can't become the character. Idk why. Do you have any advice? Also, when I read scripts that are from productions that are already out, like a current tv show or a movie, it's nearly impossible for me to make that character my own cause I just end up copying the original version of it. :(
all i could say is just keep practicing… the more you do it the better it gets. this craft will never be perfect, even the biggest stars still take acting classes and practice. also, i would just put your self in the present of the scene. imagine you in that scene and what all would happen if it was you. you’ve just gotta think incredibly specific when it comes to scenes, it helps a lot to imagine it a certain way in your head.
what kind of dancing do you do?! i dont have like any performance skills and that looks bad on a resume. i have 2 left feet, i can't dance to save my life. :(
you can put anything on your resume under skills like: (mine) tap, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, cheer leading, gymnastics, tumbling, softball, volleyball, rollerblading, swimming, bike-riding. i know you have a lot of skills, things your good at!
what do you mean by "Green"? oh ok good cause im always scared directors will just expect you to do whatever with the character, so they do guide you specifically for the most part on what they want?
green means new, not much experience. directors want you to be the character, there gonna help you in areas you need it but not all the time because you got the role from your audition and that was all you.
im taking my first ever acting class in a week and im nervous! i dont know how to act at all, and i dont know anyone! any advice?
use those nerves and turn them into excitement. the one thing i can tell you is to HOLD NOTHING BACK. you might think it feels weird or like your not doing something right, but trust me when i say the more nervous and scared you make your self feel the more it shows to other people and hides your talent. don’t be afraid to scream or cry or flirt or laugh when your acting, that’s the beauty of acting you get to be someone your not.
when your on set do directors/workers tell you exactly how they want you to act/facial expressions and the attitude they want you to give off? or do they just let you do what you want/feel is right with the character?
so you mean most actors sound fake/forced when they first start? becuase nothing i say sounds natural or real and it makes me feel like i totally suck and their is no hope for my career:(
well every actor became a successful actor because of practice and classes. the more practice, the less green you become. but even the biggest stars tsill take classes, because its always good to continue to perfect your craft.
how do you pick which headshot to bring into auditions? or to use
whichever one would attract to someone’s eye the most. ask your agent, if you have one; usually they will pick their favorites, them or the photographer. if not, then pick the one that is as plain as possible but shows your true beautiful features.
whenever i attempt to act it sounds so forced fake and unnatural. i feel like i totally suck. ill look up scripts online and try to do them and i sound horrible. i know one problem is because i dont know how im supposed to say the lines(comedically, dramatically) what do you suggest i suck and sound so fake:(
practice, practice, practice. keep on reading the scripts, practice with your friends, say them out loud by yourself. it’s gonna sound green at the beginning, but the more you practice and even get into acting classes, the better you’ll be and less fake you’ll sound. just think of it like your the character and this was happening to you; put yourself in the characters shoes. practice, practice, practice.
